The Uranus Opposition

Midlife crisis? Or Midlife enlightenment?

It takes the Planet Uranus approximately 80 years to make a full revolution around the Sun.  That means, when you are around 40 years old, you experience your Uranus Opposition, or, as I'd like to call it, a “midlife awakening”.  Uranus rules sudden insight, flashes of genius, Freedom, rebellion and breaking out of the norm.

If you are in your 40’s now, and were born between October 1968 through November 1974, as well as May to September 1975, you were born with the planet Uranus in the sign of Libra, the sign of marriage, contracts, partnerships, agreements, disagreements, open enemies, balance and relationships.

Uranus, also being the planet that rules technology, this is the first generation to utilize internet dating.  Many in this generation are open to doing relationships their own way, and have not sought out the traditional marriage “get married, buy a house, have babies, and convince the neighbors you’re living happily ever after”, but have explored staying single until their late thirties, or engaging in open-relationships.  The Uranus in Libra generation wants to reinvent relationships.

But, what of the Uranus Opposition, in general?  Why the “crisis”? Is it really a crisis? Or is it just that, by the time you hit your 40’s, you become enlightened by the fact that, life does not last forever, and if you have any hopes and dreams you haven’t pursued, the time to do it is NOW.

My father, a baby boomer in his early 70’s, and I were laughing over brunch at what he referred to as my “mid-life crisis tattoo”.  For my 44th birthday, I had a tattoo of Shiva, the God of Yoga, tattooed covering almost my entire back.  But, I argued, that it wasn’t a “mid-life crisis” tattoo.  I’d actually wanted the damn tattoo for about 20 years, but it wasn’t until I was in my 40’s that I felt like I could afford to spend a couple thousand dollars on a very large piece of work on my back.

He did laugh, recalling buying a Mercedes and a Motorcycle when he turned 40. Again, it wasn’t a crisis. It was “I’d wanted a motorcycle since I was a teenager.  It was time to get it now.”

The Uranus opposition goes beyond middle aged people buying sports cars and getting tattoos.  It’s the realization that you only have one life, and by age 45, you realize you’re about half way through your life, if you’re so lucky to live to be 90, and most likely, it's going seem to go faster than the first 45 years of your life did.

It’s the realization that, all the dreams, hopes and wishes you had as a kid (“When I grow up, I’m going to…..”), if you’re going to make them happen, the time is NOW.

If you’re in your 40’s, enjoy your new found enlightenment, and do it now!
